The port is a place consisting of land and waters surrounding the boundaries as places of government and economic activity is used as a lean ship, docked, up and down the passenger and cargo handling facility that is equipped with the safety of shipping and port support activities as well as a intra- and inter-modal transfer of marine transportation.

Types of Ports Can Differentiated According to: 



Natural
  a. Open the port, the ship can be docked directly without the help of the sluice.
  b. Enclosed harbor, the ship entered the water to go through the door.

Ministry
a. Public Ports, held for the benefit of society that are technically managed by the Port Enterprises (BUP).
b. Special Port, managed for the benefit of its own to support certain activities, both government agencies, and private entities, such as the special port.

Scope Shipping
a. International Port Hub, the primary main that serves national and international role in a large number of nodes in the network and an international sea.
b. Ports International, secondary major national and international serve large numbers also become an international marine transportation network node.
c. National Harbor, a major tertiary serving national and international in moderate amounts.
d. Regional harbor, is the primary feeder port to the main port serving nationally.
e. Local harbor, port serving local secondary feeder in small quantities.
